Chateau Chenonceaux Gardens
All hail King Dick! KC and Julia bought Dick a crown since he always sat in the seats over the toilet on the bus
which were raised about 6 inches over everyone else as if he ruled over the rest of us!
Chateau Chenonceaux
Our 10 year anniversary dinner! Sophie did her best to decode the cheese plate.
Chateau Chambord
Ross strolling around Chambord. Ross is great, he told of all the
places in Australia we need to visit. He helped us plan an itinerary for
our future vacation!
This is how I imagine my backyard :)
The bus ride from Mont St. Michel to Amboise took most of the day. We lunched in Fougére on the way and arrived in Amboise
in the late afternoon.
The next day was full of French chateaus! The first stop was Chateau
Chenonceaux which was the home of the King's mistress (that is until the
wife kicked her out after the King's death). Patrick described this
chateau as the "ladies chateau" since it had two very extravagant
gardens.
I have to admit Chenonceaux was very cool especially how it extended
over the river. The rooms looked very cozy as they were fully furnished.
The next chateau was Chambord. This place was huge! It was as impressive
as it was sprawling. This the the "men's chateau" as it was the King's
hunting lodge although apparently the King actually spent very little
time here.
The exterior view was the most impressive sight. The chateau rooms were
mostly empty. We ran into René a couple times
during our wanderings. He was being a tourist too -- taking pictures and
seeing the sights.
That evening was our official ten year anniversary day. KC and Julia
surprised us by buying us a very nice bottle of champagne. Later in the
evening, Gen and I ate at L'Epicerie which is across the street from the
Chateau d'Amboise. We ate at the outside tables.
Jean, John, Pat, Monte, Pam, and Dick were at the tables next to us.
They were super kind and bought Gen and I the bottle of wine we had for
dinner. Our waitress, Sophie, was fun too. She didn't speak
much English but that was half the fun when decoding the cheese plate!
The next day as we were packing up and checking out of the hotel, we overheard
an American arguing with the hotel desk clerk about why there wasn't ice
available and why they couldn't have drinks in their rooms. Its sad that
people can't visit other cultures and appreciate their customs and way
of life.
